- Why did she call the teddy bear a refugee ?
- Why did the killing of Jews start immediately why didn't they trick them into coming into a concentration camp and kill them there?
- How did she survive taking this new job and why didn't anyone think she was a jew?
- Why was Sophie so surprised and shocked to find out she was jewish why had she forgotten herself ?
- What type of relationship did she have with the bear and why had she kept for so long?
- Why was this man so touched to make a replica of "Refugee"
- On the map on the site you can see Poland and Germany are very close together so do you think that it was easy to escape
- (Go to Describes her years in Poland living under a false identity Personal Stories read the whole Transcript) Do you think that the brainwashing was fast and effective
- Do you think the teddy bear was important?why?
- Write a reflection talking about her connection between the teddy bear whether or not it was important and compare her position and luck to the people who gut captured and put in a concentration camp

1. She called the teddy bear a refugee because her and her mom were refugees of the war.
2. The killing started immediately because they just wanted to get rid of them and let them die because the Nazi thought that Jews were filthy and not human.
3. She survived because her identity was covered up and no-one could tell that she was actually a Jew. They didn’t know that she was a Jew because on her papers, it said something different that who she really was. Also because she had blonde hair and light eyes so few suspected she might be Jewish.
4. Sophie was only five years old when she and her mother made a new life for themselves and she didn’t really know much about what was happening so then when she got older, she believed that she was not a Jew.
5. She had a really strong relationship with the bear. She kept it for so long because it comforted her.
6. This man was so touched to make a replica of “Refugee” because this story is touching how the father keeps the mother and Sophie safe by changing their papers and arranging for them to move away from Poland.
7. I don’t think it was a piece of cake. There were many soilder and they will catch any Jew that they see. If they took a very long journey around Germany to get to France ,or someplace close, then they could easily just fly out to the U.S. or someplace safe from the Nazi. The tricky part is flying out because I’m sure that the security in the airport was also in for the whole Nazi idea.
8. Actually, I think that it was probably pretty quick because she was so young when she first found out her “fake” identity so she would have always believed that she was Jewish.
9. Yes the teddy bear was important because the war was really big and she needed something to comfort her because she was really young.
10. The teddy bear would be very important to me because I would be really scared if there was a war and there was no one to comfort me. The comparison between Sophie’s position and luck to the people who got captured and put in a concentration camp was very far apart. While Sophie is Jewish, she was living her whole life learning to hate Jews.
I think that Tobi did a good job on the questions. Some were hard and some were quite easy. The questions weren’t where you just stayed on the same page and looked at that for the whole time, but she made the quest where you have to look around that site and find the answers. Over all, the questions were good and at the correct level of challenge. Good job!
