Showing someone they are valued builds integrity.
In the short story Thank You Ma’am, Roger a young scruffy boy commits a crime, robbing a woman named Luella. Unlike most people, Luella was not keen on letting him go, instead she decided to teach him a valuable lesson. This story states that showing someone they are valued builds integrity. When they arrive at her house,, “Roger looked at the door looked at the woman and looked at the door and then went to the sink ... The door was open... He could run, run, run, run, run!” Roger knew he could run and Luella would not be able to catch him, but instead he stayed because this woman had so much compassion to bring him to her house it would be rude to run away and not hear what she has to say. His character began to change.”I have done things,too, which I would not tell you son”...She did not ask a lot of question she understood that he would be uncomfortable and would leave because she has been through problems as well. Instead he stayed and gain more knowledge.
Like the story this shares the same theme, showing someone they are valued builds integrity. The photo “Unusual Request” by Laurin Linder illustrates a 85 year old Ukrainian woman that asked a photographer for a memorable nude shot of her.He was surprised, He asked the woman why she would do this and she replied, “Because after I‘m gone, I want people to celebrate my body.” When she mentioned that she wanted people to celebrate her body he noticed that she was sincere and very serious .
In both sources you see that a character changes for instance Luella taught Roger a lesson and showed him the importance of doing good in life. In the photo Unusual Request ,Laurin Linder was impressed by the woman and he later on states it was one of his most memorable shots ever.It shows that if you make someone feel valued it builds integrity.
Betrayal can lead to vengeance.
Roald Dahl's short story states that betrayal can lead to vengeance.In the coziness of her well tidied house Mary Maloney waits eagerly for her husbands arrival. After offering food and trying to engage her husband in a conversation he reveals to her a shocking truth his words frightened her to such a state that it resulted her to swing the frozen piece of lamb to the back of his head with no warning. Patrick's act of betrayal made Mary Maloney character change completely from a loving and devoted wife to a calculating and selfless woman.
In this article betrayal came in a different form. “We are living in a shabby abandoned camp with no sanitation or water facilities. Our company used to give us some money for food, but now it is stopped,” Kaiser Ahmed. 46 Bangladeshi workers fled in hopes of getting employed in Libya, they were payed either"lump sums"or nothing at all. “If we can manage one, we live on it. Otherwise, we go hungry. Sometimes we boil leaves to eat,” said Kaiser. theses workers can neither manage themselves or send money back home and they spent over 2 lakh to get there. These people were cheated, they thought they were being recruited that they could make money to send back home for a better life but they can hardly take care of themselves or keep themselves clean. "Orbit Consultant General Manager Belal Uddin said they are aware of the problem and trying to solve it."
To expose a person to treachery or disloyalty.In both stories they had hopes Mary's was to have a perfect life with her six month child and her husband and the workers dreams were to be able to send money back home to there family but when they got betrayed everything was shattered they felt like they were stuck in a pit of unhappiness because they didn't know what to do obviously they were both betrayed they couldn't maintain their normal life.
