Band Homework

The International School of Kuala Lumpur provides an (silence) exceptional education that challenges each student to (silence) develop the attitudes, skills, knowledge and understanding to become a (silence) highly successful, spirited, socially responsible global citizen.

Adding silence after a word that's about to give more description and information and when you create the void it keeps them asking what's next, what is he going to say next and every unanswered question brings tension because every question needs an answer. It makes them think what going to come next is it going to be loud, soft or scary and the person stands there waiting for it to happen and as your waiting you become tense and uneasy because your waiting for something that will definitely happen and you know it's coming and it makes you more tenser.

"No matter how dire the situation, how dangerous the environment, children need to play." - Steve McCurry

Steve McCurry captures human mortality and also joy and happiness in his photos. He was born in Philadelphia his first dream to be a documentary film maker and show the world through his movies but he thought he could express his subjects better through his photographs and due to the change of profession, he is now best known for his evocative color photography he has now won numerous awards and has written 4 books. "What is important to my work is the individual picture. I photograph stories on assignment, and of course they have to be put together coherently. But what matters most is that each picture stands on its own, with its own place and feeling"

I couldn't choose one actual photo because they both standout to me because the picture emphasizes on hands. The hand is a very symbolic image, there are many denotations of the hand(s) but in all these photos what is he trying to emphasize, are those hand prints of soldiers?, dead family members? what could they represent? These hands don't represent dead soldiers it is actually folk art. But they all tell a story, don't you think each child is entitled to have a safe fun childhood and also be able to run with shoes have clean toys and not always have to see a rifle ?
"Whether it is splashing in puddles or climbing on abandoned tanks, their world of make believe is almost as important as food and shelter."

Photograph is proof and when proof is shown to humans, proof that poverty still exist, proof that wars are still going on, that's when we all realize, that this is ridiculous and that we need to change. What gives a photo it's essence? it tells a story and can be interpreted into many things not just one idea.To read a photo is to look at the background look at the use color and the use of space and then just annotate on the picture. Everyday must be an adventure for him because everyday he is risking his life probably to show everyone the shocking photos he's been capture and every time i look at a picture there's always one question Doesn't he value his life ? or he is just doing this for the world to realize how bad it's gotten.

Jason and The Argonauts Myth or Fact ?

In the Greek tale Jason and the Argonauts, they are on an adventure to find the golden fleece they go through lots of obstacles and conflict in other to get what Jason truely desires most, the fleece and his rightful seat on his throne.

There is geographical proof that these places where Jason passed were real.

  • Jason was taken from his parents, and was brought up on Mount Pelion, which is a real mountain

  • The Story happened during the Trojan War

  • They found the palace of Jason and also found pictures.

  • The quest was in Lemnos which is a real city

  • They found the cliff where the women pushed the men

  • The Clashing Rocks exists

  • There are cave drawings of Jason

  • The land of the Golden Fleece is in Georgia

  • The Oak tree he used for the Argo is real

  • In the story it says they have to go to the end of the world, there was a place where the currents were weird they could have thoght that was where it was because the currents were awkward.

  • There are drawings of all the people who particapated in the journey.

Most heroes fit the cycle of the hero which is made by Joseph Campbell I think the tale of Jason and the Argonauts fits perfectly into the cycle.

Birth: Jason is the son of the rightful king of Iolcus his wicked uncle hides the father in prison. Jason's Mother and father sent him to Mount Pelion. He lived with chiron who taught him about plants, hunting and art. If Pelias knew that Jason was alive he would have killed him immediately.

Call to Adventure : Jason was determied to go back to his home and retrieve the throne that rightfully belongs to him. When he went to confront the king, he set jason to the impossible, claim the Golden fleece in order to have the throne.

Elixir: Jason's elixir was the golden fleece because that was his aim and that was what he wanted to achieve and that's why most of the titles were named Jason and the Golden Fleece that's what they remembered him by.

Helpers/Amulet: Hera was the supernatural helper she helped them in so many ways for example she made Madea fall in love with Jason so that she can help him win the obstacles King Aeetes, her father has set up for Jason.

Crossing the Thresshold: In order for them to get to King Aeetes they had to fight mighty currents and also go through obstacles like the Clashing rocks and Sirens.

Test : Jason went through many obstacles for examape the fire breathing bulls and the dragon guarding the golden fleece. The test proves that Jason is very determined and is willing to do anything to get his throne back.

Climax/Final Battle: It happened when he had to fight the dragon and also runaway from the King Aeetes they thought of quick and smart manuevers to escape

Return: They return safely with the fleece and are prepared to take back the throne from the wreched king.

Pandora's Box & Orphan Boy

Curiousity is greatly frowned upon by Gods, like in the African myth Orphan Boy and in the Greek myth Pandora's Box. Both myths illustrates that curiousity can challenge authority and power and also lead to change. The God(s) didn't like their power to be questioned. If they said doing something is strictly forbidden you cannot do it for example in both Orphan Boyand Pandora's Box they were told not to do a specific thing but there was so much temptations that they could not resist they were punished greatly and had so much loss if they were loyal and less curious it wouldn't have happened and that is an example of challenging authority and also curiousity leading to change when pandora open that box she unleashed all of zeus tricks that were later on sent down to humans and the only good tiny weak hope. Curiousity can challenge authority and by authority I mean the God(s) and it can also lead to change and that definently was portrayed in both myths.

Creation Myth

In the beginning it was dark. There was water everywhere”(Indian creation myth). This quote has an element that is commonly used in creation myths. Many cultures have creation myths which are unique to their identity but at the same time contain common themes for example water, perfection and people being created from mud or clay. This is amazing due to the fact that these cultures are so far apart geographically and people in the past didn’t migrate much and it proves people in the past thought the same. Most of the creation myths have water in common. They either involved diving into the water that covers the earth to retrieve some earth. The earth that is brought to the surface becoming the land we know today. (Mauidu Indians of California). In some creation myths the world was created from water for example the first being in the Norse creation myth was made by melted ice. Also in a Russian creation myth, it explained that mud was floating on water and it was in the shape of a human face. Leading to the creation of people in many creation myths the creators sought after that their creation were flawless. Often the supreme beings they didn’t like what they had created, and wiped them out for example in the Yoruba creation myth. This mentions that the humans were out of proportion they either had one leg or to many legs and the supreme beings wiped them out and started all over again. This is similar to the Russian creation myth, which explains that women were perfect until the dog’s betrayal in which he allowed the devil give womankind a bad temper.Another common element in creation myths is mud or clay. The reason the God(s) used mud and clay was because it was common thing to find, for instance even in the Chinese myth, the goddess Nuwa created the first humans from mud and clay also the Russian creation myth mentioned that there was floating mud in the shape of a human’s face so that gave the creator the inspiration to make humans.Creation myths give explanations. They speak about the past and show that people thought the same in the past, no matter how far apart the countries were on the map.

"Focus on the journey, not the destination. Joy is found not in finishing an activity but in doing it.”     I chose this one because i portrays the kind of journey i was thinking of, which is finding new things, using your skills, learning more about your surroundings and just becoming an explorer. Though he doesn't look like he is having fun in the picture it would be fun and also great experience to learn from if i were doing it. I've read many journey book and it doesn't really matter about where he reaches, what matters is the obstacles he goes through and also the determination.

China's One Child policy

China's one child policy laws are very strict. my opinion of the laws tat are put in china are too restrictive and harsh. I think that being forced to killing of innocent infants is cruel and unnecessary. Every human is entitled to his or her own rights. The government should find another way of dealing with their population. What is going on in China isn't right, and it should be stopped. China can't kill unwanted infants. Every infant should have the right to live and be cared for by his/her parents. if they think they can't handle a large amount of children then don't shouldn't have as much because if you have children you need to be able to take care of them for example Education food etc need to be given to them.i know there is a food issue but they could get a place for growing well a good place and then sell the food china is a big country i am sure they can find a place. I think that the should be That you can have as much as you want but the government should check if they are ready and cant take care of them but they should not be able force them to have an abortion its in the UDHR

Article 3
  • Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person
Article 25.
  • Motherhood and childhood are entitled to special care and assistance. All children, whether born in or out of wedlock, shall enjoy the same social protection.
If one country breaks the law another country thinks they can too and they and they all start doing it and their wouldn't be much use of having them anyway
